Barack Obama of the Democratic Party was elected as the nation's first African-American president on November 4. 2008, replacing George W Bush, a Republican, who had held the Presidential office since 2000. Obama is the 44th President of the United States and was sworn in on January 20, 2009. His victory also gives the Democrats a stronger majority in the Senate and House. Joe Biden is his Vice President.

The well-known actor and body-builder, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been California's 38th Governor since November 2003. Love him or hate him, you have to admire someone who was born in Austria, at 20 became the youngest person ever to win the Mr. Universe title and has now achieved one of the highest positions in American politics - a Republican Governor of California!
