If you've had your head buried in the sand for the last few years, let me enlighten you about our country's government.
Our current president George W Bush, a Republican, has held this office since 2000 and was re-elected in 2004. An eight year term being the maximum term of office a President can hold, he will be replaced by Barack Obama of the Democratic Party who was elected as the nation's first black president on November 4. Obama will be the 44th President of the United States when he is sworn in on January 20, 2009. His victory also gives the Democrats a stronger majority in the Senate and House. Joe Biden will be his Vice President.

The well-known actor and body-builder, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been California's 38th Governor since November 2003. Love him or hate him, you have to admire someone who was born in Austria, at 20 became the youngest person ever to win the Mr. Universe title and has now achieved one of the highest positions in American politics - a Republican Governor of California!
